Modulary heat exchanger (HEX) - cooperation with MONT ltd


Modulary heat exchanger is an innovation based on the optimization of heat transfer, fluid-dynamic efficiency, work experience in large European organic waste facilities. The project was realized by the MONT ltd company, Stubline, in cooperation with the Innovation Center of Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. This innovation features significant improvements compared to existing solutions, i.e.  the closed helicoidal heat exchanger. Modular heat exchanger represents a product aimed for a specific industry with a limited market, but also with potential for becoming one of the best solutions. The calculation of preliminary heat transfer and pressure loss was performed based on approximation of previous models and available biomass data. For the needs of prototype development, which was successfully tested, a 3D model was made, along with all of the necessary technical documentation. The final result is a modular, detachable heat exchanger (HEX) used for the pasteurisation of organic waste. The innovative design enables a highly efficient and reliable heat exchange unit, which can work 24/7, by combining the advantages of previous solutions. We would like to point out the following innovative characteristics, compared to the base solution:

  • Detachable outer plate, which allows access to inner surfaces and the flow chamber,
  • Helicoidal strips used for heat transfer (annular transient current)
  • Modular design of the input/output nozzle assembly

We would also like to point out significant advantages compared to solutions present at the market:

  • The possibility of manufacturing of flexible units by combining multiple exchangers
  • Increase in heat transfer surface area by cca 25%
  • Inner surfaces and the flow chamber are available for maintenance
  • Higher efficientcy due to increased heat transfer surface area
